Fire Inspections

Fire inspections are a critical part of ensuring safety for all buildings and businesses within Baltimore City. The Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) conducts inspections to verify that fire protection systems, building features, and operations meet all fire and life safety codes. Whether it’s new construction, renovation, or an annual compliance check, our goal is to keep occupants safe and prevent emergencies before they happen.

Types of Inspections

BCFD conducts a range of inspections, including:

  • Construction and System Inspections
For new buildings, renovations, or installations of fire alarm, sprinkler, or suppression systems.

  • Final Inspections for Permit Close-Out
Required before occupancy or use of newly installed fire protection systems.

  • Annual Business Inspections
For commercial and public occupancies to maintain compliance with fire code.

  • Special Event and Temporary Structure Inspections
For events using tents, generators, open flames, or food vendors.

  • Hazardous Material and High-Hazard Occupancy Inspections
Ensuring proper storage, use, and safety precautions for hazardous materials.
